Comment Shatner is an amazing guy (Score 4, Interesting) 91

On the one hand, he has a reputation for having been a pompous ass at times. On the other hand, this writing of a 90 year old man, clear and lucid, and philosophical and wise. We should take heed. The problem is not to "save the Earth", for we are a speck in time and the Earth will be fine. Life and species will come and go, and even humans are a natural part of the planet, so if we kill off thousands of species, we are no different than other invasive species. What we really need to focus on saving is ourselves - the more destructive we are to the ecosystem and each other, the more likely that human catastrophies will occur. Life on the planet will go on, and perhaps thousands of years from now, there will be but a faint memory of that invasive species - humans - and how they, like many other species, died off, leaving evolution to continue with new life.

The Nexus 5 was the first phone to use Google's HDR+, which shot up to nine frames and combined them computationally.
However, although even more sophisticated today, Google's Pixel phones don't do the over-oranging that Apple's phones do, or the over-greening that Samsung phones do.
It's a choice Apple made to process in this way, and IMHO many of the iPhone photos look way too "overcooked".

Many of those items are true.
But the comment on where you've been - your wireless provider already knows where you've been and all of the wireless companies have direct portals to sell that data to the police.
Note that Google does NOT sell your data to other companies. What they do is put you into advertising buckets like "Likes hamburger joints" or "Lives in Clark County", etc. so that they can sell targeted advertising. And Google has been much better about protecting your privacy than countless other companies that have leaked data. My personal data has been leaked by UCLA, Target, Home Depot, Bebe, TMobile, Verizon - to name only a few.

...I was listening to podcaster and broadcaster Leo Laporte. He made a comment that the "best tracking device was in our pockets". This was before the Snowden revelations, and it sounded technically feasible but a bit paranoid and preposterous that anybody would do that.

Fast forward and in 2020, it's not preposterous at all, it's our new way of life. We don't even think about the fact that a lot of what we've been doing is being carefully recorded by location and time, just for law enforcement or who knows else to use if they desire.
